Allen Funt's Candid Camera (1960) was aired on CBS on Sundays at 10pm for seven years, preceding 'What's My Line? (1950)'s time slot, and the program reached its peak in 1963 placing second in the national Nielsen Ratings. Funt had begun his signature program on ABC Radio as 'The Candid Microphone' on June 28, 1947, and it ran until September 23, 1948.
Paul Taylor, the second contestant, was the last of the Taylor family's descendants to own 'John Taylor & Co', the world's largest working bell foundry, dating back to 1784. Taylor was in the U.S. for the dedication of the Washington National Cathedral carillon's 53 bells, which his company manufactured.
