The Situation Room display showed the track of the rescue helicopter that had picked up the downed Hawkeye crew and was returning to the USS COWPENS. It showed a silhouette of a SH-60 Seahawk series helicopter but had it incorrectly labeled as a Sea Stallion (CH-53).
In the opening scene over An Khe, a military pilot uses "Fox" to phonetically spell the letter F. The correct term (since 1955) is "Foxtrot."
The E-2 Hawkeyes is configured like a older turboprop airliner with the pilots sitting side by side. The eject sequence shown depicted a fighter jet type configuration with one pilot sitting in front of the other, as in an F-15 or F/A 18.Actually the ejection footage is meant to be Leo and Ken O'Neal ejecting out over Viet Nam during that war. It could have been meant to be an F-4 Phantom which had the tandem seating. There was NO footage of the E-2 Hawkeye or it's 5-man crew in the episode.
During the rescue mission, the person leading SEAL team has the rank of commander, but a captain is said to have died during the operation. A US Navy Captain (O-6) is above a Commander (O-5) and would be the leader of the team.
It is also unlikely that a US Navy Captain would be a such a mission, since it is one rank below a rear admiral.
In the situation room the president is told a recon aircraft is being scrambled out of Okinawa Japan. When the missing aircraft is from USS Carl Vinson which would be a better choice for recon.
Josh asks intern Ryan to researçh amendment drafts to include JTC Scoring. Ryan repeats it back as a question, "JCT is...?" Donna does not correct the error but answers, "Joint Tax Committee."
If Leo was supposed to be a pilot, why was he in the backseat of what appeared to be an F-105 Thunderchief? Typically the back seat was filled by a non-pilot aviator who specialized in electronic warfare, radar, and navigation.
Senator Hunt refers to the "PC-3 Orion" sub hunting aircraft. This should have been the P-3C Orion.
General Alexander refers to "The Republic of North Korea," a non-existent name. A Pentagon officer would call the country North Korea, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, or the DPRK.
