It's a good thing for Karl Boehm and pregnant wife Ilse Taurins that when he is arrested for the murder/robbery of a rancher that he falls into the hands of Judge Garth. When Doug McClure and another of the Shiloh ranch hands citizen arrests him, Lee J. Cobb gives him a Miranda type warning. The good judge is about a century ahead of his time in anticipating that.
Boehm who is from Latvia also learns about the 5th Amendment, due process, presumption of innocence and a few other things they don't have in Latvia. That and Cobb's defense of him save his bacon.
Of course this doesn't sit well with a few townspeople chiefly the victim's son Robert Duvall. Still the law is the law.
One of the best Virginian episodes out there.
