"The Virginian" was one of the better TV Westerns, particularly in the "Judge Garth" years. But by the time this episode showed, the series had lost much of the "spark" it once had. "The Virginian" was memorable for outdoor cinematography that was superior to just about any TV Western, and this was still the case in this episode. What started out as a promising story with the outdoor scenery and a beautiful wild horse petered out about halfway through the episode. Once the "Big Race" part of the plot was over, the story turned into a Western Soap Opera. In addition, Sara Lane was simply not a very good actress, and the combination of this factor plus a mediocre screenplay doomed the episode to no better than ordinary.

This Virginian episode involves Sara Lane and a wild white horse that the Shiloh
hands capture. But Sara brings out the good in him, but only Sara can get near
him. Like Joey in Fury.
Still he's a problem for Shiloh and there's talk of what must be done.
Sara Lane reminds me of Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet. Some plot elements from National Velvet are in this story.
