Looking for that final witness...
planktonrules4 May 2016
When the show begins, a political boss, Brian O'Malley (David Brian) should be very nervous...but he seems anything but! While Eliot Ness and his men have two witnesses in custody who will be able to convict O'Malley, this boss seems cool. You soon learn it's because he's very confident that some 'accident' will soon befall these guys! Soon he arranges for one of the witnesses to 'jump' out of a window to his death and the final witness is anything but reliable. However, the dead man's girlfriend....she might just be able to help Ness' case. The problem is they don't know how to find her, so they end up doing some detective work to find her...beginning with a 90 cent phone call and some peanut brittle as their only evidence! The problem is that O'Malley's goons also might be able to find her first.

This is a well made and interesting episode of "The Untouchables". The only part that came off poorly was the attempt on Ness' life near the end. Wasn't it NICE of this potential killer to make that unnecessary noise to let Ness know he was behind him?!

A couple guest stars to look for in addition to Brian are Jack Elam as well as John Marley.

Witnesses Are Tougher To Guard Than Crooks!
ccthemovieman-129 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
An arrogant political boss, "Brian O'Malley" (David Brian) is already on the hot seat when the story begins. The Feds have him up on rap that will put him behind bars for a long time once the trial begins. The hard part - as crime fans can tell you because we've seen this in a thousand stories - is keeping witnesses alive. You just know one of the two witnesses, if not both, will get knocked off.

Sure enough, a crooked cop throws one of them out the high-rise window one night. The interesting part is how Elliot Ness (Robert Stack) interrogates both cops guarding the witnesses. He does some nice Sherlock Holmes detective work in uncovering the guilty party.

However, O'Mally is not off the hook. There is someone else who can convict him and it's up to Ness and his gang to get to her first before O'Malley's men do. It turns out to be a very suspenseful end.

Brian, Fay Spain and Jack Elam - all familiar actors to folks in the period this TV show ran - all do a good job as guest stars in the program.

Stack, as usual, is terrific. Watching these shows about 50 years after they were made makes me appreciate Stack's performance even more than I did as a kid.

The Boss
bkoganbing7 November 2013
Robert Stack and his Untouchables go after political boss David Brian in this episode. The squad is babysitting a pair of witnesses, Jack Elam and Johnny Seven who are to testify against Brian in federal court.

But Seven while under police custody takes a dive out of his hotel window. With a little persuasion Elam tells Eliot Ness that Seven's girlfriend Fay Spain is also a good witness for his case. The trouble is that Brian is also looking for her as well.

And Brian has his main trigger man John Marley on the job. There is a real slam bang shootout with Stack, Paul Picerni, and Nicholas Georgiade and Marley and a few associates at a motel where Spain is hold up.

It's all fictional of course, but still a nice episode.
