Narrator : Ranger Hoby Gilman had been trailing the Marple brothers for three weeks. They were wanted for robbery and murder in Tahoka. Ranger Gilman and his partner Sam Talbot had tracked them from La Mesa, the Big Spring, to Sterling City. In a showdown at Sterling City, Ranger Talbot was fatally wounded, and one of the Marple brothers critically hurt. With one of their brothers wounded, it was logical to assume the Marple brothers would head for Stockton, the only town where they could hope to find a doctor.
