The comedy segment is Carnac the Magnificent. Lily Tomlin talks about doing appearances at colleges, and says she is more comfortable talking as one of her characters than as herself. She then talks about memories from childhood and still being in touch with a friend from the apartment building where she grew up. She also tells of having relatives see her comedy act, and being somewhat shocked that she uses some frank language. Next she tells of working as a checkout person at a supermarket in Burbank for four days to gain experience for a role. She also tells of shoplifting and getting caught. She then demonstrates a conversation between her Edith Ann character and Dot, a supermarket cashier. Walter Slezak recalls his father's career as an operatic star, and tells two stories of on-stage mishaps in the opera, as well as a story about his dog getting into an awkward amorous encounter in a New York City park. He then describes his retired life in Lugano, Switzerland and how he saved his money and has several pensions, so he can live comfortably while others he worked with in the Golden Age of Hollywood spent all their money; he and Johnny get into a discussion of exchange rates between dollars and Swiss francs, and how much Slezak is receiving for his appearance. Jerry Van Dyke does a stand-up routine portraying Buckaroo Barney, a drunken host for a children's show. During the interview which follows, he talks about two friends of his running for office against each other in his Ohio hometown - which initially concerns Johnny that they may violate FCC rules about TV favoring candidates, but Van Dyke points out that he's campaigning for both of them. He explains that a third friend, who is opposed to both candidates, enjoys pointing out that as a former mental patient, he is the only one of the three who can proved that he isn't crazy. Sam Blotner, an American living in Costa Rica who Johnny invited back after appearing the previous night, finishes his explanation of how a chair he gave to Johnny is connected to the President of that nation. He also tells a lengthy, rambling story about trying to meet fugitive Robert Vesco.
