Jack, still in desperate need of part-time work, agrees to help Janet in the flower shop. However, once there, his first instinct is to goof off, while Janet prefers that he take the job seriously. This causes a temporary rift in their friendship, that carries back to the apartment. The main subplot is that Helen decides to start sending flowers to herself, and claiming that they are from a "secret admirer", all in the name of making Stanley jealous.

This viewer will admit that he's on Janets' side, here. She never comes off as the officious taskmaster that Jack feels she is, and his subsequent behavior is a little ridiculous. (However, there is one priceless moment where he snarls, "I NEVER OVER-REACT!" while making a face.) But, being a fundamentally good person, he sees a chance to help Janet save face with her boss, after she forgets an important order.

The bits with the Ropers are pretty good, too. It's a hoot how Stanley reacts to the flowers. Their subplot is resolved in a manner that is appealing at first - we think that he's going to stop taking her for granted - until a hilarious final resolution where a shadier part of his nature takes over, and she unleashes her wrath.

In general, 'Jack in the Flower Shop' is a truly great showcase for Mr. Ritter, who's at his most hysterical when he exaggerates amorousness.

Guest starring J. J. Barry, in his second appearance as Janets' boss Mr. Compton, character actor Mickey Deems, in the first of his five appearances on the show, and Natalie Schafer of 'Gilligans' Island' fame in a cameo as a flower shop customer.

Eight out of 10.
