This amusing mistaken identity episode of the Warner Brothers' television western "Sugarfoot" entitled "Trial of the Canary Kid" casts star Will Hutchins in dual roles as not only Tom Brewster but also his notorious cousin the Canary Kid. Tom is forced to serve as Canary's defense attorney after his aunt Nancy (Francis Bavier) Thomas pulls a Remington revolver on him. The Canary Kid is accused of shooting Jackson Smith in the back. The gang is holding another judge hostage and refuse to release him before the Canary Kid is cleared. Christopher Colt (Wayde Preston) shows up to testify for the prosecution. During a fight in the street, the Canary Kid slugs his cousin, changes clothes with him and escapes. Bronco Lane (Ty Hardin) shows up in town as one of Canary's former gang members starts a fight against anybody who is a Texan. The next day Canary masquerades as Tom Brewster, and Tom cannot convince anybody that he is not Canary. Laramie Deputy Johnny McKay appears as a witness for the defense and brings evidence that Canary was locked up in his jail when the alleged shooting of Jackson Smith occurred. Unfortunately, nobody can distinguish between the two men apart until McKay introduces a dentist, Doc Holiday (Adam West), who performed some dental work on Canary while he was in jail. Holiday was in a jail cell when he fixed Canary's teeth. Gordon Jones plays the town marshal who has the Canary Kid in jail. The Canary Kid thinks that he has managed to pull a fast one by masquerading as Tom. No sooner has he stepped out of the courtroom than MacKay cuffs him.
