The title is a parody of the movie A Bridge Too Far (1977) which in turn was based on the 1974 book of the same name by Cornelius Ryan.
A reference to the Hill-Burton Act is made by one of the characters. The Hill-Burton Act was passed in 1946 to provide funding to hospitals to improve services and build infrastructure and included clauses that mandated hospitals provide non-discriminatory services and "reasonable services" to indigent patients.
At the beginning of this episode, dialogue references the death of Eve Leighton, as if it was a very recent event. But her death happened two episodes earlier, implying that the episodes were broadcast out of the intended order.
