Erskine captures an American deserter in Fiji and brings him, with his wife, to Australia. According to the Americans, Captain Delaporte ordered the massacre of the residents in a Philippine village looking for food. An assassination attempt is made on his life by two Filipinos when he arrives in Sydney and Cato changes the arrangements for the trial. Cato is suspicious of the motives of the Phillippine government-in-exile and the Americans, and believes that Delaporte is being made a scapegoat. The question is, for whom?
