Episode 13 introduces Gordon Jump as Chief of Police Tinkler
kevinolzak19 April 2010
Having just renewed their passion in the bedroom,Burt and Mary decide to throw a party to celebrate; when Burt drops by to invite Peter,he becomes the first to learn of the tragedy.Chief of Police Tinkler(Gordon Jump)arrives at the Tate household to go over the facts in the case.He pinpoints the exact time of death as between midnight and 7:00AM,in the victim's bathroom(stabbed, shot, strangled, suffocated, and bludgeoned). He also establishes everyone as a suspect: Chester, motivated by jealousy; Jessica, who can't vouch for her husband; Corinne, who had caught Peter in bed with another woman(who isn't a suspect because "it's impossible for a blind woman to shoot with that kind of accuracy"); Benson, because he's black, and a butler(and we all know the butler did it); Eunice, who claims to have been staying at a hotel in Washington; even the Major becomes a suspect,if only because he carries a gun; Danny, again disguised as a rabbi, because he has connections to the underworld; Jodie, because he's "a homo," and homos do strange things(especially since he stood up the pretty nurse); Chuck, who claims to have spent the evening with Bob; sweet, innocent Mary,"no reason in the world to suspect you...therefore I suspect you." And finally Burt,"the bereaved father, the least likely suspect of all...therefore a suspect." Gordon Jump was just another example of superb casting.

The Butler did it!
Sleepin_Dragon8 November 2023
The family are left reeling over Peter's death, Chief of Police Tinkler is on the case, and has a large list of suspects.

Wow, it makes you realise, soap operas haven't changed at all in fifty years, they're so incredibly over the top, Coronation Street and EastEnders still have murders thrown in on regular occasions, they're casually dropped in, this really does poke fun at the unlikely scenario.

It also pokes fun at the whodunnits, a very Poirot like setup, with all of the guests and suspects in the dining room, with The Detective running through the list of suspects.

Laughs galore, The Major is a scream, Benson is hilarious, it's all just too funny.

Gorgon Jump is a scream as Tinkler, it's obvious now characters are going to be recycled, Tinkler is another great addition.

9/10.
