Disclosing the Hidden Past of Lex Luthor
claudio_carvalho1 April 2006
When Lex Luthor is threatened by Jude Royce (Corin Nemec), he remembers his past in Metropolis when his former friend Jude stabbed him in the shoulder and was killed in a night-club. The scary Lex tries to find who is haunting him, pretending to be a dead man. Meanwhile, in the high school, each student is assigned to survey the life of another one, and Chloe Sullivan questions the adoption process of Clark by the Kents.

"Zero" is another good episode of Smallville where the lead character is Lex Luthor indeed. His dark and hidden past in Metropolis is disclosed in three different versions of a fatal incident, and his friendship with Clark Kent shakes. My vote is eight.

Flash warning

This was a very good episode! All I can say is that anyone with epilepsy should beware of the beginning of the episode, there's a lot of flashing and pulsing lights. Other than that, enjoy!

So many twists and turns!

Warning: Spoilers
Lex Luthor must escape an accusation of murder in this thrilling episode.

The episode opens with a scene at a club. A woman mysteriously dies from a gun shot, though no one knows where the shot came from. One of Lex's former "friends" from the club arrives to try and blame Lex for the woman's death. The episode then progresses by displaying several different scenarios for the case, and from the point of view of several different people who were at the scene of the crime. The audience has the inclination to believe the views of many different patrons and see how several people could easily be suspects based on whose story is being told.

Finally, Lex is able to escape the blame. But how many more times will he elude the dirt in his past?

Lex Confronts His Past!
gab-1471219 December 2021
"Zero" is a fun and somewhat unique episode. It is a Lex-centered episode where Lex has to confront his deadly past. How this unique? The same event, the shooting of a girl at a nightclub, is told from three different angles. Which angle will the audience believe? Lex, played superbly by Michael Rosenbaum, is the center stage. But I also liked the secondary plotline where Ma and Pa Kent are trying to keep Clark's secret hush from the prying eyes of Chloe. There are also some cool visuals. The dead animals at Pa Kent's farm is a striking image.

The Smallville Theater is being turned into a coffee shop called the Talon and reopening is nigh. Lex is doing what he can to help Lana reopen. A man from Lex's past, Jude Royce, comes into the shop to stalk Lex because he accuses him of the murder of a girl at Metropolis's Club Zero. There is a chance Lex may be responsible for this murder. Chloe, for a school project, delves into Clark's past. The Kents try and deflect her questions. Suspicion may be aroused.

Overall, great episode! Lex-centered episodes are always the most interesting episodes. Even though he is currently friends with Lex, we cannot forget the evil this man is capable of. Credit to Michael Rosenbaum's fantastic performance. He is also in cahoots with the Kents because Pa Kent believes Lex is responsible for the death of his animals. I also figure sooner than later Chloe will figure out what is going on.

My Grade: A-
