- Samantha's announcement she's giving Richard another chance after his unfaithfulness, as nobody's perfect and it was 'only sex', is such a bomb-shell that even Charlotte makes an obscene gesture. Although Miranda is atheist, she can't deny Steve's entire Catholic family having the baby baptized. Just when Carrie felt down having to write about relationships without having one herself, she gets invited by a publisher to select some of her columns as a book. Eternally positive Charlotte drags Carrie along to the Fountain of Faith, but stands up to say faith didn't suffice for her.—KGF Vissers
- Carrie has a solid writers block and thinks she is about to get fired by her editor Gabe Manning (Matt Servitto) since her last 2 columns were total fluff pieces.
Charlotte takes Carrie out to troll for men, so she can have something to think about. Gabe runs into Carrie at their troll meet and tells her that Carrie has an offer from a publisher Lily Martin (Molly Shannon) and Courtney Masterson (Amy Sedaris) from Clearwater Press who wants to make a book out of her column.
Carrie meets Lily and Courtney for drinks who want to have the book out by Christmas and want Carrie to pick 30 of her best columns and write an introduction and a summary for it. Carrie is not sure what is her point of view on life, after living her life so far.
Miranda and Steve are baby proofing her apartment. Miranda agrees to have Brady baptized on Steve's suggestion & for his mother Mary (Anne Meara). Steve says that everyone in his family is baptized, and it would mean a lot to his mother. It is also a great way to get the family together. And that all the actual baptism amounts to is a priest putting a little water on their kid's head. It is really a simple ceremony. At the baptism preparation meeting, Ma Brady is visibly disappointed that Miranda doesn't have Brady with her. She also mutters that her grandson isn't going to burn in hell. Inside the church, Miranda negotiates with the priest the terms of the baptism ceremony: no mention of being Catholic, no reference to original sin, or the renouncing of Satan. She chooses Carrie as the godmother.
Samantha takes Richard back, despite the girls advising against it. Samantha says that she's choosing to believe he's sorry and that from now on will do his darnedest to stay faithful. Richard gifts her an expensive jeweled ring to cast her doubts aside. Samantha looks alarmed that he's about to propose, he tells her it's not for that finger, but rather her middle finger. So, that when she's flipping him off, he has something shiny and expensive staring back at him
As Samantha and Richard go for lunch, Richard is still ogling at every pretty lady inside the restaurant. As such, Samantha decides to make Richard attend the baptism ceremony with her at Church.
Father Andrew (Joseph O'Brien) does the honors. As the priest performs the ceremony, Ma Brady and Magda look on with undisguised delight. Samantha jokes to Richard that there's not enough holy water in the world to cleanse him. Charlotte is upset that Miranda didn't ask her about being a godmother. Steve's cousin Patrick (Danton Stone) is the Godfather and tries to hit on Carrie.
Charlotte takes Carrie to a love affirmation seminar run by Dr Cheryl Grayson, as she has not lost her faith in finding true love. Carrie gives in when Charlotte makes her realize that she could probably get a column out of it. But Charlotte asks questions during the seminar saying that she has repeated her affirmations every day and yet no love yet. When the lecturer tries to put Charlotte down (saying she is not trying hard enough), Carrie defends her.
Carrie dedicates her book to Charlotte, the eternal optimist, who always believes in love.
