In his 2019 autobiography, "Baby Don't Hurt Me", Chris Kattan recalls that the third installment of the Mango sketch (written by Kattan and Scott Wainio) was the first one that really clicked. The reason being because this time Garth Brooks played himself in the sketch, whereas in the previous two versions, Brendan Fraser had played an ordinary husband/businessman and Samuel L. Jackson had played a drug dealer. This version of the sketch proved to be so popular, that years later Garth Brooks told Chris Kattan that at his huge, sold-out stadium shows, audience members would often toss mangoes onto the stage.
