- Fred's feathers get ruffled when an old friend from St. Louis comes to town claiming to be Lamont's actual father.
- Grady informs Fred that an old friend from St. Louis, Sonny "Big Money" Gripp, is in Los Angeles. Fred recalls all the good times they had together, but Grady states that Big Money Gripp moved to town to be near his son -- Lamont. Fred tells Grady that Gripp was always a joker, and probably was playing one on Grady. "You know what they say. . .mama's baby, papa's maybe", Grady warns Fred.
Gripp comes to the door, and Fred welcomes him. Gripp confirms that yes, he believes Lamont is his son. He claims that he had an affair with Elizabeth, Fred's late wife. Lamont comes home, and Gripp reminds him of how he befriended him when he was a kid. Lamont remembers the old man, and he's happy to see him. Fred is miserable over the possibility that his wife may have been unfaithful to him.
Later, Gripp is invited back over to the house. This time, Aunt Esther, Fred's sister-in-law, is there. When she hears Gripp's story, she goes off on him. "My sister was as pure as the driven snow when she married Fred," Aunt Esther snaps. "And you are looking at the only driver she ever had," a smug Fred states.
Lamont comes home and the two old men ask him to choose which one will be his dad. Lamont is surprised at Gripp's claim. He tells him that whatever happened between him and his late mother was their business. As far as Lamont is concerned, Fred is his dad, and that will never change. An emotionally moved Fred tells Gripp to get the hell out of his house. Aunt Esther says Gripp must promise not to keep telling the lie about him and Elizabeth sleeping together. Gripp claims he has proof. He tells how he used to sneak into Elizabeth's bedroom when they all still lived in St. Louis. When Gripp details the location of Elizabeth's room in the house, Aunt Esther states that Gripp is lying. That room happened to be her bedroom.
Fred tells Aunt Esther to come clean about men visiting her bedroom at night. When Gripp asks her did she used to wear big hair rollers, Aunt Esther quotes Bible verses and runs out of the house. Later, Lamont and Fred are glad the question of Lamont's parentage has been cleared, but they shudder at the thought of Gripp and Aunt Esther being together.
