Leslie Bibb is bibbilicious!

Warning: Spoilers
("Popular: Round One" on my DVD, here on IMDb it has this inexplicable name)

Some time ago I saw the NIP/TUCK episode "Naomi Gaines" with Leslie Bibb as the titular character, and as is the way of RavenGlamDVDCollector, always hot on the tail of a pretty actress, figuratively speaking of course, I Googled her, and that is how I came across POPULAR. All it took for me to green- light the purchase of the DVDs was the downloaded series intro. Sweet eye candy by the score, obviously.

Now watching Season One. I think Leslie Bibb is just absolutely pretty beyond perfection. As for Carly Pope, she is damn fine. Excellent job done finding the two hot leads. "I'm just so tired of being compared..." so just allow me to add this: Mere mortals cannot go one round against an angelic beauty like Leslie. If only we were all as beautiful, with dewy doe eyes, long lithe limbs and blond to-die-for hair. But we're not. Live with that.

With the hindsight of having watched most of NIP/TUCK, I can see Ryan Murphy's signature in lots of places. Likes to shock, with close-ups on formaldehyde frogs, vomiting... homosexuality issues... oddly named characters, Mary Cherry, reminds me of NIP/TUCK patients episodes were all named after... pretty girls, nasty scenes.

I have the theory that Ryan watched THE FACTS OF LIFE, and that it inspired him to create the characters. There is the pretty one, the feisty one, the fat one, the small spunky one. Can't prove it, but I could very well be right...

One criticism. Tammy Lynn Michaels, that girl who plays the mean one, Nicole, really, that's such overkill! Anybody that blatantly nasty would have been cast out plenty, plenty quick. No redeeming qualities. A cardboard character, truth be told. A properly played bad girl has layers to her character. How to play a bad girl? Jennie Garth, as Kelly Taylor, in the first stretch of BEVERLY HILLS, 90210, a multi-faceted bad girl. Okay, for this character, that might still come, this is only the first episode. But it was a heavy-handed loathsome performance, nobody would want to have that piranha she-devil poison dwarf as a friend.

I consider NIP/TUCK to be an atrocity, and I've posted horrible musings about Ryan Murphy here on IMDb, but I am glad to report that I like this show. A warm cheer went up from me when I saw the ethereally-beautiful intro appear on my big screen after having seen it only on my tab.

More than sixteen years ago but sure looks good. Yeah! Glad I bought it! Currently my most POPULAR show!
