[last lines]
Perry Mason : Well, I wanted to help him, Tragg. I tried to point out that it was irrelevant, incompetent and immaterial. You might tell him that.
Lt. Tragg : Yes, I already have. That's how this got broken.
[dumps the broken contents from an envelope onto Perry's desk]
Lt. Tragg : You know, uh, he, uh, never should get mad. Why, he missed me by at least two-feet.
-
Perry Mason : Well, that was a fine performance Miss Clay. Paul, will you see that Miss Clay gets home.
Paul Drake : With pleasure.
Miss Clay : Bye Mr. Mason.
Perry Mason : Goodbye.
[smiles]
Miss Clay : If ever there's anything else I can do for you?
Perry Mason : Well, I think that uh.
[gets cutoff by Della]
Della Street : We'll call you.
-
Lt. Tragg : Well, hello everybody.
Perry Mason : Well Lieutenant, what are you doing here?
Lt. Tragg : Oh, it's a long dull story. But it's just come to the attention of the district attorney that you people are withholding evidence. I believe it's in the form of broken dictating cylinders. Uh, something like these.
[picks up a shoebox on the desk]
Perry Mason : Put that down Tragg.
Lt. Tragg : Well here, this looks like a good one.
[picks up a whole cylinder of the desk]
Perry Mason : Listen Tragg, you can't walk off with those.
Lt. Tragg : Oh, I wouldn't bet on that if I were you. And here's the dictating machine.
Perry Mason : Where's your warrant?
Lt. Tragg : Oh, I don't need one. This is all evidence in a murder trial.
Perry Mason : You still need a warrant.
Lt. Tragg : Say, you may be right.
Perry Mason : I am.
Lt. Tragg : Wish I could take your word for that. Oh, but Mr. Burger might feel differently. I'll let him decide. He'll see you in court anyway. Em.
[signals to the police officer to pick up the dictating machine]
Lt. Tragg : . Bye.
[doffs his hat]
