The prologue, set mostly outdoors at around midnight, was obviously shot during the daytime.
During cross-examination, Perry says that the decedent, Kevin Steele, had been trying for six years to win custody of his son from his former wife. More than once, other characters said that Steele's son was only four years old.
The murder was committed with a revolver kept in the victim's house. It is never explained how the killer, who had never visited the house before, would have known where the revolver was or even that it existed.
Perry is asked by Lt. Drumm to give eyewitness testimony against a woman accused of murder. Later, Perry offers to serve as the woman's defense counsel. No trial judge would allow that, given the obvious conflict of interest.
