- Called in by Banning Grant, Perry learns that con artists have been selling phony gold mines. To find out who's responsible, Paul disguises himself as a prospector. When a local is murdered, Perry solves the case during a coroner's inquest.
- When Banning Grant is injured in what may not be an accident at an abandoned gold mine, he has Sandy Bowen ask Perry to come to his aid in the town of Gold Gulch. Perry is told by Grant that a mining company in which he was once a major owner is making shady deals for mining properties including deals with Bowen who is known to salt mines. Most of the town residents have shares in the company and depend on dividends from it to help live. He asks Perry to undo a deal between the company and Bowen but Perry is turned down. Grant tells Perry he wanted the property since he found the lost Bolder mine on the property. After someone shoots at Grant, Perry calls Paul to act as a weekend prospector who has found the mine to take the heat off Grant. Paul succeeds but when he returns to his camp, he hears shots and finds the head of the company, James Bradisson, shot nearby. Perry has to help try to solve the case during a very informal coroner's inquest where the dirty laundry of Gold Gulch is revealed.—Anonymous
- I try to avoid spoilers, even in my synopses, but this one contains one out of necessity. The Plot Summary by writer frankfob2@yahoo.com for this episode is JUST PLAINWRONG insofar as it states: "Perry learns that con artists have been selling phony gold mines in the vicinity. To find out who's responsible, Perry disguises himself as an old prospector." He DOES NOT disguise himself as an old prospector. Perry however does solve the murder of James Braddison. Arthur Hunnicutt as Sandy Bowen does make a nice red herring; I've not seen him play a murderer, and if the reader is looking for that in this episode, he/she will be disappointed. Hunnicutt as is usually the casek plays Arthur Hunnicutt, who has committed some lesser transgressions as we soon learn. What is a "Drowsy Mosquito" (title) doing in dry gold mine territory? It is a gold mining apparatus, not an insect, and does have something to do with the solution of the murder. Overall, a decent Perry Mason vehicle. Thomas J McKeon
