- When a slow-talking but highly-skilled young wrangler shows up in search of work, Pan believes the ranch-hand problems may be solved. But love and heartbreak are in the air, and "the Natural" ends up being more trouble than help.
- Ed will soon be coming of age, and he is still determined to enlist when that happens. When Ed asks him, Rich says that he'll sign the necessary papers for him to be able to enlist, much to Gloria's dismay, who would like Ed really to think about what he's doing rather than rush into it. Kit also has some feelings about Ed's plans. With Ed's imminent departure, the arrival of Chilco Evans onto the ranch almost seems like providence. The unknown Chilco really seems to know his way around a ranch. He admits the only reason he is looking for work is that he had to leave his last ranching job due to girl troubles there. After Rich and Pan hire Chilco, a similar situation seems to be arising here. Kit eventually admits to Tommy and Gloria that she is attracted to Chilco. While Gloria helps Kit look more feminine to attract Chilco, Tommy fumes as he is jealous. He hasn't had the nerve to tell Kit himself that he's always been in love with her. But what Rich notices that Gloria seems oblivious to is that Chilco is attracted to her. Rich tries to nip Chilco's infatuation with his wife in the bud. All those that are in love ultimately hear only what they want to hear, which causes an unsustainable situation on the ranch.—Huggo
