The first episode of Neighbours
Metal_Robots14 January 2021
This was the first episode of neighbours. I remember it being very popular during the '80s in the UK, when I was a kid. I can't believe I used to watch it, but we all did. I used to watch Eastenders back then too, a large proportion of the UK did at the time.

Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan got their start in Neighbours and quickly moved to the UK to become pop stars courtesy of the Stock, Aitken & Waterman hit machine. Neither of them are very talented, they were just in the right place at the right time I suppose. Guy Pierce (whose character was called Guy I think) was also in it back then and he's since been in a ton of more interesting stuff than Kylie & Jason ever were, including the excellent Christopher Nolan film, Memento. Kylie played the Character of Cammy in the Street Fighter movie, which I am yet to see, but that was a video game I loved back in the '90s and still play now. Another early Neighbours actor i've seen in many Hollywood films since is Alan Dale who played Jim Robinson, he played General Ross in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Even in the late '80s as a kid, I noticed that Neighbours was starting to recycle old plots from previous episodes. That was back in the '80s and it's still going now in 2021 so I can only imagine how many more times they must have done that since, hundreds of times by now I presume.

I just watched a brand-new episode on channel 5 in the UK, and it's even worse now than it was then, the acting is laughable! I was amazed to see that the character of Jane Harris is still in it and she looks so old now! She was hot back in the '80s but I must admit she's still pretty hot now for an older woman. She was in a film called Run Chrissie Run! In 1984 which I remember seeing in video shops (remember them?) but I still haven't gotten around to watching that yet, i'm sure it can't be any worse than Neighbours is!

Where it all began

This is the first episode of the beloved and now sadly missed (cheers Channel 5) soap 'Neighbours'.

And in this episode alone we see all that was good about the show. It oozes charm and light humour, we're introduced to characters we instantly want to spend time with.

I miss this show hugely, but watching it back from the start gives some comfort at least.
