When Danny Imperialli comes back into Fran's life, she decides to get back at him by leading him on then dumping him, but memories of his kisses makes her accept his marriage proposal which is only happy news for C.C. Sylvia is livid that it's not Maxwell, he is secretly jealous, the kids are heartbroken, and Niles feels like he's losing his best friend. Danny begins to show his true colors and it's obvious how the situation will be resolved. It's simply another distraction between Maxwell and Fran from admitting their attraction, and shows how everybody's life has been impacted by Fran being hired, even her.
