Down on his luck young jerk Mack (a solid performance by Philip Anglim) seeks refuge in an old abandoned hotel. Alan meets alcoholic magician J.J. "Freddy" Fredericks (a lively and engaging portrayal by veteran character actor Eddie Bracken), who can make anything appear. The only problem is that everything Fredericks makes appear always turns out wrong.
Director William Wesley relates the enjoyable story at a constant pace, maintains an amiable offbeat tone throughout, and makes nice use of the decrepit building setting. The bluesy score, a funky snake woman monster, and a fitting harsh comeuppance for the greedy Mack all further enhance the overall entertainment value of this nifty show.
