The interview at the end of this show was taped almost 8 weeks before it actually aired. The show's slate is dated August 2, 1967, as Peter Tork just barely gets the entire slate within view before dropping it. Micky Dolenz is also seen in the interview with curly hair, but his hair is straight for the main show.
Monte Landis makes his Monkees debut as the King. The producers wanted Landis to be in every episode of the second season, always changing characters, but this proved to be impractical. Nevertheless, he managed to appear in seven episodes, still quite an impressive accomplishment. This is the only one where he played a nice man, in all others he played villains.
This episode contributes many images to the second season's opening credits montage. Numerous shots of The Monkees in their Middle Eastern court dress are shown, as are some of the faces in the part where the boys react to their pictures being given the wrong credit. Also featured is an almost subliminal clip of Micky Dolenz dressed as Napoléon Bonaparte from his "Secretary of Defense" scene.
"Secretary of Defense Micky Dolenz" is dressed as Napoléon Bonaparte, planning the invasion of Moscow. The soundtrack used for the scene is Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, which was written to commemorate this battle.
