- TriviaObsessed fan Marci Maven, played by Sarah Silverman, complains constantly about her favorite TV show's new theme song. This is a reference to the minor controversy that brewed among Monk fans over the introduction of the new theme song "It's a Jungle Out There" written and performed by Randy Newman in the second season of Monk.
Many fans have clamored for the return of the original theme song by Jeff Beal, even going as far as organizing letter-writing campaigns and petitions to USA Network demanding its return.
At the end of the show, Marci Maven asks Adrian Monk to promise that if he ever gets his own show, he won't ever change the theme song. When Monk agrees to the promise, the original theme song by Jeff Beal begins to play as the scene fades to credits.
- GoofsBrad is shown killing his ex-wife - surely any decent forensic officer could have found out that the blood spatter on his shirt and the floor wasn't consistent with him trying to help his wife. This being a high-profile case, a good blood-spatter analyst should have been consulted.

The Awful Title Song and the TV Show
The TV star Brad Terry is at the house of his ex-wife Susan Malloy in San Francisco after hitting a bartender in a bar. When he is leaving the house to go to the studios, the press and the fanatic fan Marci Maven are waiting for him. He calls Susan to show the scene, and she returns to her gym show in front of the TV, while Brad talks to the press. Out of the blue, Susan screams and Brad finds her stabbed inside the house. The police arrive for the investigation together with Stottlemeyer, Randy, Monk and Sharona, who is a great fan of Brad. When Randy touches the remote control, the TV volume is turned up and he turns the TV off. Brad is submitted to the polygraph, he has at least ten witnesses from the press that he was outside the house, but Monk believes he is the killer of his wife. Marci goes to the precinct and confesses that she murdered Susan. Brad invites Stottlemeyer, Randy and Sharona to a party of his 100th show, but not Monk that proceeds the investigation. Soon Monk finds what happened with Susan in the house.
"Mr. Monk and the T. V. Star" is a great episode of Monk with the killer inspired in Monk, since is an excellent investigator with a show with an awful title song. Therefore, very similar to "Monk" and its awful title song. The crime is once again brilliantly resolved by Monk. My vote is eight.
