When Monk is looking at the teacher mail slots, one of them is labeled Brooke Adams. In real life, she is Tony Shalhoub's wife.
The second season first used the theme song "It's a Jungle Out There," which was written by Randy Newman and won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music. The lyrics refer to Monk's wide variety of fears, and it suggests how difficult and dangerous everyday life seems to him.
Filmed at the same place as High Anxiety (1977). Both movies feature deaths from the tower. See filming locations.
The Season 2 opening credits song does indeed start with a new song by Randy Newman, as posted by another contributor; however, the song for the ending credits is the same as the previous season, and was the opening credits song that first season as well.
