John Beal: Paul Naylor

Quotes

  • Michael Anthony : [Entering Naylor's office]  Mr. Naylor?

    Paul Naylor : Yes.

Michael Anthony : My name is Michael Anthony. I stopped by at your house to see you but was informed I would find you here. I have a check for you.

Paul Naylor : Insurance already? I haven't even filed a claim. I guess my wife must have. Sit down, won't you?

Michael Anthony : [Anthony sits and opens his briefcase]  Why thank you. This isn't insurance, Mr. Naylor. But, uh, you might call it an assurance for the present and I hope for the future:

    [Displays a check]

Michael Anthony : A cashier's check. Would you look at it, sir?

Paul Naylor : A million dollars. A million dollars! But that's made out to me, Paul Naylor. That is a cashier's check. I'm calling my doctor. He told me I was all right, but I'm...

Michael Anthony : [Chuckles]  You're all right, Mr. Naylor. This isn't a delusion or a hallucination. It's a gift to you.

Paul Naylor : Why thank you, but, oh now, who'd give me a million dollars? And what for?

Michael Anthony : I can't answer that, but I assure you, it is yours.

    [Again offering the check]

    Michael Anthony : Take it.

Paul Naylor : [Naylor accepts the check]  A million dollars.

Michael Anthony : The tax has already been paid, and you may use it however you wish,

    [Producing document]

Michael Anthony : if you would sign this agreement pledging never to tell anyone, except your wife, the exact amount you received or the circumstances under which you received it. If you do tell, the money will be reclaimed.

    [Offers pen]

Michael Anthony : Would you sign, please?

Paul Naylor : Sounds simple enough. I can't... Why should I worry if it's real.

Michael Anthony : Oh, it's real, all right.

Paul Naylor : [Signs agreement]  I wanna tell the world it's a million dollars! I, I, I, I don't... I don't know how you just say "thank you" for anything like this.

Michael Anthony : [Returning document to briefcase]  You've already thanked me, Mr. Naylor.

    [Departs]

    Michael Anthony : Good luck.
