The opening titles were redesigned for this episode, with the iconic neon afterglow and additional clips. This version of the titles lasted for much of the rest of the series.
Saundra Santiago (Gina), Michael Talbott (Switek), John Diehl (Zito) and Olivia Brown (Trudy) do not appear at all in this episode. With Rodriguez dead and Castillo not introduced until the following episode, this makes Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas the only regulars to make an appearance.
Directed by a former TV cop Paul Michael Glaser who played Starsky in Starsky and Hutch (1975) for 4 years.
From this episode onward the "Miami Vice Theme" includes the famous synth-based guitar lead in the opening credits. Edward James Olmos' credit would appear in the next episode, One Eyed Jack (1984).
When originally aired on October 26, 1984, an announcer spoke over the end credits stating "NBC is proud to announce that Miami Vice (1984) has been picked up for the full season."
