Did you know
- TriviaWhen asked for a cigarette, Mannix says he hasn't smoked since July (1971).
- GoofsWhen Mannix is showing Art Malcolm the book of rare letters at the end, the book is supposedly a collection of many different such documents, yet as Mannix flips through the pages, every page is exactly the same.
- Quotes
Joe Mannix: Well, what can I do for you, Miss Warren?
Cindy Warren: Well, um, after I left headquarters last night, I didn't feel like going back to that house, so I checked into a motel in West L.A. I was there I guess about maybe ten minutes and I got a phone call from a man, and, uh, he threatened me.
Joe Mannix: Do you know who it was?
Cindy Warren: No.
Joe Mannix: Well, what exactly did the man say, exactly, word for word?
Cindy Warren: Well, he said... he said something like, "Did Monty rap to anyone before he died?"
Joe Mannix: What did you tell him?
Cindy Warren: I said I didn't think so. And then, uh... Hey, I'm not exactly sure how all this went down, but, well, he kept hitting on, "Did Monty and Victor Jury talk?" Oh, yeah, he asked if Monty made any phone calls.
Joe Mannix: Did he?
Cindy Warren: Well, not after Victor and I got there.
Joe Mannix: Did he mention anything about Monty's mother or buttons... or General D.?
Cindy Warren: No.
Joe Mannix: Anything else?
Cindy Warren: Yeah. The last thing he said to me was, "If you talk, Miss Warren, you're going to wind up like Monty did."
Joe Mannix: Talk about what?
Cindy Warren: I don't know.
Joe Mannix: Have you any idea?
Cindy Warren: No, I asked him and he hung up.
[Peggy walks in with some coffee]
Joe Mannix: Peggy, see if you can get John Randolph on the phone, huh?
Peggy Fair: The postal inspector of the Federal Building?
Joe Mannix: Yeah, ask him if he can find out if there's any mail being held for Monty Dawes at a general-delivery office anywhere in this area.
Peggy Fair: Right.
Cindy Warren: It's really weird. I'm caught up in something, but I don't know what it is. Why me? I don't know why I'm involved. I don't know what I'm going to do to get out.
Joe Mannix: Well, the first thing to do is find a safe place for you to stay until we come up with some answers.
My favorite part of the show was the worst. And, since I have the shows on DVD I could check and re-check it to make sure I really saw what I thought I saw. When a gorgeous Jaguar (the terrific old E Type) goes off an embankment and blows up (NO!!! NOT THAT CAR!!), as it flips over you can see some cables pulling it to make it flip!! Seriously...you can see the cables!
As for the rest of the show, it's reasonably entertaining and I did appreciate that the writer DID do their homework (for example, Button Gwinnett IS the most valuable autograph of the signers of the Declaration of Independence because there are so few examples of his writing). Worth seeing.
