The episode is not as good as other Magnum, PI episodes... but the ending was spot on. It was as moving as anything you will see or read, it is exactly how two good buddies would say bye to one another.

Warning: Spoilers
Having watched the first four seasons of Magnum, and now starting the fifth, I must admit that Magnum, P. I. is really more than an action genre TV series. I'm surprised by how much surrealism there is in a Magnum episode, and touches of The Twilight Zone almost with a twist in the beautiful setting of Hawaii.
This episode, Mac's Back, is no exception, with a Mac lookalike returning or is he the real Mac who was blown up a couple of seasons ago. In the Magnum reboot I suggest that Brooklyn 99's Joe Lo Truglio play Mac please. He is a spitting image of the actor who plays Mac.
The ending was very touching and really makes you think about the final farewells of friends through thick and thin.
