Shades of Born Yesterday!

This was a fun episode, complete with ditzy blonde and mobbed up boyfriend. It's not Judy Holiday and Broderick Crawford and William Holden but it was fun. Watching this series again after almost 40 years has been very enjoyable. I don't have good enough internet to stream movies so I buy series and this has been great. I'd forgotten how different this series was, especially in its depiction of Vietnam vets. I will be sorry when it's over but I'll watch it again in a few years. The remake was a pale imitation of the original and I doubt if people will be watching it 40 years later. Next up, Mission Impossible!

Lots of fun

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is lots of fun and it's as though the writers decided to let loose as they approach the series finale. I must admit, I would have liked to have seen Mac again, as he played a pivotal role the season seven finale and the season eight opening.

One of the scenes is set in Safeway. I don't know if Tom Selleck and fellow cast and crew shopped there while filming, but still.

On a more serious note, this episode was dedicated to Pete Carpenter, who co-wrote the Magnum theme with Mike Post. Actually, I only recently learned that the Post-Carpenter Magnum theme wasn't the original theme, so I had to go online and watch the original theme opening.

Much better

Innocence... A Broad is a huge improvement over the preceding episodes and shows that the Magnum team can still come up with fun cases when they want to.

Here, Magnum is paid to let a garbage baron's trophy fiancée tag along with him while he tries to gather evidence against a conman who's suing Robin Masters for a fake accident. But her enthusiasm leads them into a murder case involving a dangerous mobster.

The episode is full of humour, such as Rick's phobia of insects and his conspiracy theory about pest controllers. Rita, as well as being stunning, is also portrayed as a very cute and likeable character, and not just the dumb blonde that her fiancé takes her for. The only disappointing thing about the episode is that she doesn't dump the fat old jerk at the end. I guess the writers are saying that money talks.

Here's hoping that we can get at least a few more episodes of this quality as the series runs its final lap. (By the way, the actress Yvonne Perry is listed here as playing Martha, the nightclub cleaner who Rita and Magnum speak to. One look at Perry's picture is enough to see that that's not her. I think she may play Bergos' unnamed girlfriend, though I'm not sure.)
