This is one of my favorite episodes of Magnum it's basically Magnum doing "Rashamon".
I did like the beginning where we get a little sense of the culture of Hawaii where Magnum has to wake up around the middle of the night to watch a Baseball game. Which is true as certain programming in certain far off locales comes off at odd times. But one moment that was funny was when it get interrupted and Magnum sees it's another task he has to do. You can see in his facial expression he really doesn't want to do it, which is something I can emphasize where there is a new episode of "Battlestar Galatica" or "Game of Thrones" I've been waiting for six excruciating days only for bull crap to happen to make the wait worth nothing.
I really loved hearing each of the perspectives of Rick, Higgins, and T.C. It's just cracks me up how each of them are sort of making themselves seem like action heroes from Higgins a kung fu master and Rick almost like some tough guy archetype from a 70's TV show. While making the other characters seem weak. In a way it's sort of a common thing for most of us that have been though a bad situation and wishing that we did better or took control somehow.
But what I really like is how thought provoking the episode is as each of the stories provide little clues to the mystery, because each of the stories have small details that haven't changed. And as they say sometimes it's the smallest details that reveal the biggest truths.
However the episode I feel has a theme about the truth, how the truth can be complicated sometimes because of how obscured it gets from the different perspectives. But also about how the truth really is about how one perceives it.
Truth truly is a matter of one to many viewpoints.
