A Lonely Hearts Killer

Warning: Spoilers
M-SQUAD –Chicago Bluebeard- 1958

This is episode 25 of the 1957 to 1960 Crime series, M-SQUAD. The series ran for 117 episodes and features Lee Marvin as the headliner. Marvin is a Lt with the elite M-Squad unit of the Chicago Police.

Someone is bumping off women and taking off with their cash. The only link between the cases is a Lonely Hearts Club they all belonged to. M-Squad is called in to look into the matter. Detective Lt Lee Marvin goes undercover and joins the club. He is somewhat surprised to find one of his high school teachers is a member.

There are plenty of twists and turns involved here with several red herrings thrown in to boot. Suspects abound and Marvin is run ragged before getting the right man in a set of cuffs.

The episode I caught seemed to run about a minute shorter than most of the episodes. Still, a pretty good episode, that keeps the viewer guessing on who the villain is.

'Lonely Hearts' Clubs
ccthemovieman-114 March 2010
Does anyone remember "sLonely Hearts Club? That's what singles groups used to be called back in the '50s. Oh yeah, there have always been lots of lonely people in the world and different ways to get them together is nothing new.

The problem with this particular Lonely Hearts Club is that there is a killer among the group, a guy poisoning women to get....what else?.....money.

Making it personal for " Lt. Det. Frank Ballinger" (Lee Marvin) is that one of the victims is an old teacher of his, "Miss Haskins" (Molly Glessing), a kind lady Frank always liked.

Expect a few twists in this story as Frank goes underground once again, pretending to be a lonely guy looking for a woman, but finds out fairly fast he'll have to let people in on who he really is. It turns out that's the only way he's going to get cooperation and solve this crime.

Nobody is a standout in here but it's a pretty solid story that will keep your interest. as some people aren't who they first appear to be.
