Underwhelming and Forgettable

This is the second of three Iron Man Carmichael episodes where Lucy goes undercover as a stuntman at a movie studio.

The LUCY SHOW episodes from this mid-Season 4 era all seem to have their problems. The setup here is kind of awkward and seems like two different episodes meshed together. Lucy accidentally destroys a winning ticket at the racetrack that belonged to Mooney, so must perform as Iron Man to recoup the $250.

The whole episode is rather underwhelming. In fact, I watched the entire series back in the '90s on Nick at Nite and had zero memory of this one. The best parts are courtesy Gale Gordon. Mooney has a funny and topical line: "A banker at a racetrack is as conspicuous as Yul Brynner standing among the Beatles", and on the set of the pirate picture Lucy sends him flying across the stage while she swings on the rope.

Since Joan Blondell's character was Lucy's "in" at the movie studio, and Joan infamously walked off the set after 2 episodes, the script now has Mary Jane as a script girl to make the story work properly. Mary Jane's job will allow for a lot more celebrity-focused plots in the future.
