After the shootout Virgil and Morgan Earp are laid up in a hotel room recovering from their wounds while Wyatt and Doc are busy trying to protect them. The Nugget editor Dameron is publishing stories claiming the Earps and Doc committed murder while Sheriff Johnny Behan is planning to officially charge them with murder hoping to murder them in the jail or if he can get a change of venue on the way to Tucson. Wyatt sends Doc to talk to Curly Brocius and Johnny Ringo who moved into town to see what they have planned. Behan has also talked to them learning they want the Earps killed but not Doc. Behan gets his warrant against the Earps and Doc but Judge Spicer sets bail once he hears more of the facts. Brocius and Ringo fed up with Behan's plans decide to blast the Earps in the hotel during the funeral for the three dead outlaws. Behan over hears the plan plus their desire for a new Sheriff so he has a deputy notify the Earps. Wyatt develops a plan to stop the outlaws that puts Brocius and Ringo in the line of fire.
