- All the guys are jealous when Eddie Haskell's dad allows him to drop out of high school, especially when he brags about the money he's making in his new job; but best friend Wally isn't sure that Eddie is as happy as he seems to be with his newfound independence.—shepherd1138
- Wally learns from Lumpy that Eddie plans to quit school. He is surprised that Eddie ends up being true to his word. He has an $80/week job at Thompson's Garage, which is a lot of money for someone his age. He can't help but flaunt his newfound wealth to his high school friends, even if it is currently all on credit, which he could get only because of the job. As Eddie's new working life progresses, Wally believes that he isn't as happy as he thought he would be. He and Lumpy stop by the garage one day, and see Eddie being chewed out by Mr. Thompson, who may have regretted hiring him, due to his inexperience and lack of mechanical knowledge. Since all his friends are participating in the usual high school activities, their schedules are different than Eddie's, so they no longer hang out. But Wally knows that Eddie would never admit to making a mistake and want to go back to school, especially as he was always an outsider to the primary school activities. Wally figures he has to be shown, but in a subtle way, that the school wants him back.—Huggo
