Beaver is feeling ill. Upon examination by their family doctor, Dr. Kirby, the diagnosis is inflamed tonsils, which Dr. Kirby believes might be best removed once the infection goes away since Beaver has been stricken with many colds of late. He will reassess once the inflammation has subsided. Beaver doesn't even consider what removal of his tonsils means, until he speaks to Richard, who uses such terms as "yank" in how they will be removed. To calm Beaver's nerves after his talk with Richard, Ward tries to provide a softer picture of what the whole process will be like: pretty nurses taking care of of him, ice cream for dinner and lots of presents from people who will visit him in the hospital. After that talk, Beaver looks forward to the procedure. But another more normal reality may ultimately kibosh Beaver's latest thoughts about his tonsils being removed.
