- Beaver and schoolmate Gilbert don't know if they should tell their English teacher that they scored highly on a pop quiz because the questions were the same as the ones they had memorized the night before from one of Wally's old tests.
- Ward and June receive a note from Beaver's new English teacher, Mr. Blair, that he is doing poorly in his class and is on the verge of failing. Gilbert's parents receive a similar note. Part of the problem is Beaver's lackluster study habits, especially in those subjects he doesn't know well. Unable to help him with his homework as he would like, Ward instead asks Wally to help him with the issues he is having with grammar. He goes through the process of trying to explain adverbs and adjectives to both Beaver and Gilbert. Unable to get through to either, Wally instead provides them with one of his old English exams to review. When Mr. Blair gives the class a pop exam the following day, Gilbert is happy to see that it is the same exam given them to review the previous night, including the answers which they've both coincidentally memorized. Beaver, however, feels a little uneasy about the possibility of getting a good mark on the exam when he really doesn't know an adverb from an adjective. He has to decide whether to tell his parents and/or Mr. Blair about what he considers possible cheating. And if Gilbert finds out what Beaver is considering, he may apply his own pressure on him for self-preservation purposes.—Huggo
