Beaver and Gilbert want to go into business together mowing lawns. Ward allows Beaver to do it, even allowing Beaver to borrow some of his tools. Beaver and Gilbert find that it isn't as easy to get business as they thought, which is made all the more difficult by Eddie's purposefully bad advice. By the time that Beaver does find a lawn mowing job from who looks to be a very nice lady, Gilbert has given up on the endeavor, he believing that adults will find a reason to get mad at them after the fact of doing the job regardless. Gilbert bowing out of the work leaves Beaver to do the job all on his own. He is buoyed by receiving a $5 check for his hard work. That jubilation turns to cynicism in mankind when the check turns out to be NSF. Ward tries to restore Beaver's faith in mankind.
