After Jewish diamond merchant Ezra Shore's body is found burned in an alley, Detectives Cerreta and Logan believe they are dealing with a hate crime. Shore's brother and business partner Isaac Shore says Ezra was out visiting a client. He had $10-12,000 worth of diamonds on him. There is little blood at the scene leading the detectives to believe that he was killed elsewhere and moved to the alley. The medical examiner reports that he was beaten to death and set on fire afterward. Several black youths were seen running away from the body and soon the the DA's office has both communities after him to do something about the others. The man's killer is much closer to home and is connected to mobsters and money laundering.
