At the bar, Lt. Skinner is provided a box that contains a pistol that he believes may have been used in a crime. The Lt. takes a pen out of his pocket and lifts the pistol out of the box by sliding the pen into the trigger guard, bringing it up to his eye level. As he does, the barrel of the pistol is pointing directly at Officer Shepard. A trained officer would never do this, as the semi-automatic pistol may be loaded as it has not been checked. The pen, being inside the trigger guard, could strike the trigger and discharge a round if there was one in the chamber. In addition, both he and Officer Shepard would know not to point the pistol at anyone, yet neither is bothered by the gun pointing directly at her from just a few feet away.
