The series opens with our starring trio of wise and wise-cracking, motherly Mike McCall (Merry Anders), sophisticated Greta Hanson (Lori Nelson), and dumb blonde Loco Jones (Barbara Eden) pondering how they can afford to continue to stay in their posh Park Avenue penthouse. Mike reminds them that they agreed they needed "a place like this to attract the right kind of men; money goes for money." They each discuss what they most want when they finally get rich. Mike wants to buy multiple expensive cars, Great wants to travel, and Loco just wants something to eat. The two send her out to get some cold cuts on credit. She ditches the glasses she badly needs and ends up pressing the button for the fire alarm instead of the elevator. A mild panic ensues, which prompts the landlord Mr. Blandish (familiar character actor Dabbs Greer) to visit the penthouse. From him they learn that Tom Brookman (Jon Locke), a nice young man in unappealing clothes that lent Loco money to buy groceries and who Mike and Greta threw out of the apartment, is actually very wealthy. They send Loco to the Brookman Building to smooth over things with Mr. Brookman. She mistakes panhandlers Larry the Longshot (Sid Tomack, "The Life of Riley") and Pete the Plunger (character actor Leonard Bremen) that he was speaking with as wealthy men and invite them for dinner as well. Comedic misunderstandings ensue. Some nice light comedy, but seemed a bit slow-playing.

"How to Marry a Millionaire" began airing in syndication on October 1957 as one of the first series based on a feature film. It also marked the fifth series filmed by 20th Century Fox, who made a number of series based on their films. The sitcom ran for 52 episodes over two seasons. It wasn't widely seen then and remains a rather obscure series, only recently made available in a nice, inexpensive MOD release.

The series stars Barbara Eden ("I Dream of Jeannie") in her first recurring television role as Loco Jones. Rounding out the starring roles are Merry Anders as Mike McCall and Lori Nelson as Greta Hanson (replaced in season two by Lisa Gaye- "Death Valley Days"). Like the popular film it was based on, the three lovely young ladies move to Park Avenue in New York City determined to find a rich husband. The episodes follows their misadventures trying to meet someone while at the same time avoiding eviction from their posh penthouse. A number of great guest stars appears throughout the series. The series was canceled after 13 episodes of its second season.
