Vaudeville performer and character actor Jack Norton was a friend to Jackie Gleason. A part was written for Norton. A dual part where he would play a loud drunk and his brother who turned out to be the owner of the railroad. Norton arrived to do the show but as it turned out, was too ill to manage the quick costume changes and the going back and forth between parts of the set to pull off the two characters. So, Gleason had him paid and ended up improvising the whole handcuff bit with Art Carney to make up for the hole left by Norton's departure (which is considered one of the show's funniest segments by many).
When Ralph and Norton are handcuffed to each other on the train at the point just before Norton asks Ralph; "Ralph, you forgot to ask me one thing.", you can clearly hear an audience member say, "a match". This particular audience member can also be heard laughing loudly throughout this show as well as other "The Honeymooners" broadcasts from the so-called original episodes. However, this is the most egregious case.
This is the second time that kids were the live studio audience.
