It's a dramedy. Duncan in a dress is hilarious. Walter's prose attempts were funny. Rae Dawn Chong wasn't very good. Methos falling in love - he was so generous in spirit.

Someone is trying to kill Claudia, a pre-born immortal, who is the protege of Duncan. She doesn't know she's immortal. It turns out the person trying to "kill" her is an old friend of Mac's, Walter Graham. Claudia is a world-renowned pianist. Walter, who has always wanted to be great himself or attached to the greatness of genius, and to nurture it, wants Claudia to remain young forever at her creative peak. In the meantime, Methos falls for Alexa, a waitress at Joe's, who is dying.

Water cracked me up. He kept breaking out in prose trying to create that great work of art. I thought he was hilarious. Even him trying to Claudia was funny. I thought it was funny that Claudia lost her mojo right after she was "killed" and born into an immortal.

So the funniest part is when Duncan dresses up as a female character in 1663, in a Shakespeare play being put on by Walter. Especially since Duncan was so into it, with putting his make-up on, and trying to get his dress fitted properly. When the crowd starts laughing, you can't help but laugh too.

The Methos love story is bittersweet right from the beginning, knowing Alexa was dying. Methos was adorable as he fell in love. Everyone should have a Methos in heir lives. He was so generous of spirit. I wish we could have seen more of these two throughout the series. Sadly this was the only episode we see them as a couple.

Duncan's sweetest and kindness moments are always when he is soft-spoken with someone. Ever notice that? That's how he was in a long conversation with Claudia after she lost her mojo and didn't care about living.

The big downer in this episode was Rae Dawn Chong's portrayal of Claudia. She had no personality. Claudia has these snobbish, diva lines, yet she doesn't express them with any emotion. The lines themselves reminded of things that Hilary from 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' might say. Remember that show? And how funny the actress was delivering her snobby lines? Well, Claudia had none of that. But that's how she SHOULD have played it. It would have been hilarious. Instead she was just very bland.

This was a dramedy. Not really much in the way of action. I gave it a 7/10 mainly because I never really cared for the comedies, and Rae Dawn Chong wasn't very good. If she had been better, then this would have probably been an 8. The Methos/Alexa story was good, no complaints there.

"But what is..., and should never be."

Warning: Spoilers
The main plot line here is a little weak, but it the fault of the writing, not the acting.

It's the secondary plot line here that makes this worth watching.

Adam (Methos) falls in love with a mortal, one who he discovers is dying. Joe tells Adam she hasn't long to live, and instead of the 'shock & awe', 'OMG!' reaction mortals would normally have, the 5,000 year old Immortal responds with "You are all dying!".

What matters is that we spend the time we have 'Living', not dying.

If you've never lost a loved one, it's a concept that might escape you..., until it happens to someone you love.

Contrast and compare

The story with Alexa is sweet and bittersweet.

The story with Claudia makes a stark contrast.

Throw in some silliness including Duncan in a dress.

I'm liking this season better than the morally ambiguous season 3 and the even worse season 2. Duncan is a little more consistent as the white knight.

Rae Dawn Chong was great

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this episode primarily because it dealt with a pre immortal, a topic which was never covered enough in Highlander. How does an immortal recognize a pre immortal? Does the immortal feel some kind of buzz like they do when another immortal is nearby? Or perhaps they can see a glow or aura around the pre immortal? I guess we'll never know. I enjoyed this episode also because the pre immortal is played by Rae Dawn Chong who I have always thought is so stinking cute. I didn't think her acting was that bad and I really liked the idea that as an immortal she could share her piano skills and her music for centuries to come. Of course as Duncan pointed out to her she would have to drop out of sight every 30 years or so to reinvent herself and of course she would have to learn to use a sword to be able to keep her head. Anyway, I love this episode I love the Rae Dawn Chong and I gave this episode a 9 out of 10.

Disappointing Episode

Warning: Spoilers
While the Methos back story is very touching (getting the 5 points for this episode), Rae Dawn Chong is horrible. She ruins that part of the episode. Her acting is amateur, and makes me want to turn it off. You will find yourself rooting for someone to take her head. I couldn't see why Duncan wanted to save her, or Walter Graham would want to be around her. I was surprised she survived the episode. If you can fast forward to the Methos/Joe parts, it makes for good watching. Really enjoyed Peter Wingfield as a more regular member of the cast. Adam/Methos was a great character, and he played him well. If you haven't watched an episode of this show before, STOP, watch any other episode or 10, and come back if you must to this one. But I wouldn't want you to base the series off this episode.
