- Billy Blue Cannon: Why do you stay at the High Chaparral instead of at your Pa's ranch?
- Manolito Montoya: Oh, I thought you had guessed that, hombre.
- Billy Blue Cannon: Guessed what?
- Manolito Montoya: That I stay here because, um, como do they say? Because here I am just another vaquero, and that is all that is expected of me. At the Rancho Montoya, there I am the son of Don Sebastian Montoya, one of the most powerful hacendados in Mexico. And I must never forget that, not while I am at the Rancho Montoya. You know, sometimes when I'm there, I watch my father, and I see the things he must do to be the man that he is. I don't want to be the most powerful hacendado in all of Mexico.
- Billy Blue Cannon: What do you want?
- Manolito Montoya: [laughing] Quien sabe? Before I could tell you I probably would have changed my mind, hombre. Don't ask me, alright?
- Homer: Look, where do you get off at comin' in here asking us questions? You're not the law here.
- Big John Cannon: No. No, that's the trouble. Neither is anybody else.
- Billy Blue Cannon: Don't seem right for a man to die just because of a few stinkin' cows!
- Big John Cannon: Nobody's saying it is, Blue. We live in a country that doesn't give a man much of a choice about what he's gonna die for.
