"The Promised Valley" focuses on settlers led by Captain Horatio Watkins (William Walsh, third of nine) and his friend Martie (Larry O'Connor, first of two) purchasing a promised valley from Tuscarawa Chief Tawenduma (Richmond Nairne, last of two), only to have treacherous Kinaani (Cec Linder, last of two) deceive the tribal council into believing Tawenduma a thief, usurping his position as leader. This comes as quite a shock to Watkins, who isn't aware that Tawenduma still lives, but remains a prisoner of Kinaani, unwilling to divulge the hidden location of the settlers' payment. An entry that ploughs familiar territory, despite the presence of Cec Linder, brother of actress Vita Linder (likewise in two episodes), best remembered as Felix Leiter in the 1964 James Bond classic "Goldfinger." Lon Chaney's Chingachgook closes things out nicely, refusing to settle down with the party: "cannot paddle canoe on dry land...Hawkeye and me want to find new rivers, new lakes, only way to be happy."
