After Hester shoots Sam he turns and falls into somewhat of a fetal position. Initially, Sam ends up approximately a foot and a half from the step at the bottom of the door nearby. His head and hat just past the corner of the building. When Matt and Chester exit the jail and come to investigate the gunshot the body's positioning is slightly different as Matt kneels down to check him. In the even tighter close up of Matt touching Sam's arm, Sam's rear end is now extremely close to the door step, and further from the corner of the building than the previous 2 positions. (One can use the vertical slats on the wall behind Sam as a measuring tool, or reference if need be.)
The stove pipe that is, at one point giving Chester a problem, exits the Marshal's office through the front wall. Outside that front wall is the roof of the porch on the front of the marshal's office. It's stretches the imagination why they would have done it that way. It would have been much easier and less trouble to go out the side wall.
As Hester and Sam leave the jail, after her bailing him out, the two stand talking for a few moments. You can clearly see the "corset" type, thick padding under the male actors checkered shirt/coat which is used for protection when he is eventually shot. It becomes even more apparent when he grabs his belt buckle while saying "I'll be along after etc". Its at this time you can actually see the padding shift from side to side.
Hester is beaten so badly by Sam that she can barely stand as she gets to Doc's office door. She would have had a lot of trouble getting up the stairs to the office, so much so that Doc, Matt and Chester would have heard her stumbling up the stairs. Also, how did she get herself to town? Matt and Chester wonder that too, since it is a half hour ride from their ranch.
