Cradock suspects that Hartford was in on the plans. A few days earlier Hartford had cut down some branches in a tree outside his house. It meant the gunman had a better view from the window. Hartford also wants to emigrate.
By the end of the episode. Cradock's suspicions become more concrete as Hartford tries to hurry his move abroad.
The second episode works well as Cradock focuses on a weak link. There is little doubt that Hartford is shady. The interesting scene was a trip to the dentist.
