Rory has a meeting with a counselor at school who informs her that she needs to be more social around school. Rory is upset about the meeting and consults Lorelai on the matter which results in Lorelai having a meeting with Headmaster Charleston. He tells Lorelai that she and Rory both need to participate more around school. Rory ends up sitting with a group of girls at lunch who later are identified as The Puffs, a secret school club. Lorelai signs up to be a member of the Chilton booster club where she volunteers to host a fundraising event at The Independence Inn. Lorelai also volunteers Emily to be a part of the event which ends up being a fashion show that both Lor & Em get to be the mother/daughter models. At the fashion show, one of the Chilton moms hits on Luke, which makes Lorelai jealous. Meanwhile, Rory is "kidnapped" by The Puffs to initiate her into their club. It becomes a failed attempt when Rory realizes they have broken into Chilton and the police along with the headmaster enter the scene. Rory has a nice justified rant to the headmaster as to why she shouldn't be punished because it was basically his fault that she had to socialize in the first place. We end the episode with Rory sitting at lunch, alone, with her Walkman and a book when a girl comes to sit with her, also carrying a book.
